The Bart Vanderveen Challenge Shield is awarded annually to the individual, chosen by nominations, who has contributed most to the military vehicle preservation movement.
Bart Vanderveen’s association with military vehicles, their origins, history, preservation and restoration is legendary. He restored his first MV in 1959 having produced his first book the previous year, since when he authored numerous titles on the subject. From 1982 until his death in 2001, he compiled and edited Wheels & Tracks, attaining a reputation around the world for detail and accuracy.
The Bart Vanderveen Challenge Shield was inaugurated in 2002 and sponsored
by After
the Battle, publishers of Wheels & Tracks magazine.
The award is presented at the War and Peace Show, which is the world’s
largest gathering of privately owned military vehicles, held annually
at The Hop Farm, Beltring, Paddock Wood, Kent, in July.
From this year, the award is being managed jointly by the Military Vehicle
Trust (MVT) and the Invicta Military-Vehicle Preservation Society (IMPS).
